Anas platyrhynchos

Least Concern

The Mallard is the most common and recognizable duck in the world! Male mallards have a shiny green head, white neck ring, and chestnut chest. Females are mottled brown for camouflage.

Mallards are 'dabbling ducks' - they tip forward in the water to eat, with their tails sticking straight up! They're the ancestors of most domestic ducks.
