Great Hornbill
Buceros bicornis
Vulnerable
The Great Hornbill is one of the most impressive birds in Asian forests! It has a huge curved beak topped with a bright yellow and black casque (a helmet-like structure). Their wingbeats are so loud you can hear them from far away!
When a female hornbill nests, she seals herself inside a tree hole with mud, leaving only a small opening. The male feeds her and the chicks through this hole for months!
