The Mourning Dove is named for its soft, sad-sounding call that sounds like it's saying 'coo-OOO-oo-oo-oo.' These gentle birds are one of the most abundant and widespread birds in North America.

Mourning Doves are excellent fliers, able to reach speeds of 55 miles per hour! Their wings make a distinctive whistling sound when they take off.
